What is the Emotional Quotient?

Emotional Quotient (EQ) in kids pertains to their capacity to perceive, comprehend, and regulate emotions in themselves and others.

For example, a child with a high EQ might console a friend who's upset, displaying empathy and understanding. They're adept at recognizing their own feelings and can communicate them effectively. In contrast, a child with a lower EQ might struggle to manage anger when frustrated or have difficulty making friends due to social unawareness.

EQ involves self-awareness, so children with developed EQ can identify their emotions, seek support when necessary, and employ constructive coping mechanisms. It is a critical skill for healthy emotional development and successful social interactions in childhood and beyond.
